Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal's Unlock Your Hip Flexors Review
Before You Buy – Everything You Should Know about Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal’s Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program
Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program by Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal is an amazing out of the box program to say the least. If you face joint pain in legs, lower back or hips – you need to know about Hip Flexors. Then if you feel tired or sluggish on a routine basis – again you need to know about Hip Flexors. They are so important. Hip Flexors is that one core muscle about which we have no idea.
Even I have to admit that before coming across Rick and Mike’s Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program, I had absolutely no idea about it. Yeah, of course I knew a bit about Hip Flexors. But honestly, I was clueless about what this muscle actually does. At first, I was very skeptical about Unlock Your Hip Flexors. Why shouldn’t I be?
I am someone who trusts his own research before giving in for a product. Consequently, I started with some academic paper research. What I found was that Hip Flexors are immensely critical. Moreover, in accordance with Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal’s remarks in Unlock Your Hip Flexors, even scholarly articles quoted the same. Hip Flexors when tight could cause severe health problems. I will give you an example to sum up my research about Hip Flexors.
Do you remember those days when we were children? How much time we used to spend playing outdoors? A lot, if you can reminisce. The type of activities required of our bodies to be immensely flexible. And they were. But as we started spending more time sitting on couch, chairs, etc. Our body’s flexibility kept on decreasing. Moreover, it did not happen overnight. It took years for our body to become rigid.
Why Our Bodies are so Rigid?
This rigidity is caused by tight hip flexors. Until unless, we start taking control of our physique and physical activities, this rigidity and inflexibility of our body will cause even more severe health issue. This is the reason why loosening our hip flexors is so important.
But what about Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal’s Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program? I am also giving my own intro and opinion about both of them, so that you can understand the people who are prescribing this program and their credentials.
Who is Rick Kaselj?
First of all, some basic info about Rick. He is a leading Kinesiologist and Injury Specialist. As stated on his official site he has given more than 353 live presentations. Moreover, across US and Canada more than 8,000 fitness professionals have benefited from consultations with Rick Kaselj. He has over 20 years of hand-on experience in fitness and rehab industry.
Opinion: The online research regarding Rick reveals that he is a well-known injury specialist in the health and rehab industry. I was even able to dig out that he is into hiking and cycling. He has hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada which is over 2,500 miles long.
Who is Mike Westerdal?
On the official website of Unlock Your Hip Flexors, Mike introduces himself as the national best-selling fitness author, sports nutrition specialist, personal trainer, Iron Man Magazine contributor and founder of strength site Critical Bench.
Opinion: Mike’s list of articles on fitness published on his site critical bench seems to be endless. If he is such a great writer, hats-off. But what caught my attention is the number of videos published by critical bench and their number of subscribers. It is quite high and they have been working on it for more than 6 years. As a result, I have to accept that everything stated about Mike Westerdal is legit and he has the knowledge and authority to co-author a program like Unlock Your Hip Flexors.
What are Hip Flexors?
Contrary to the popular belief Hip Flexors are a collective group of muscles. It is not a single muscle. Moreover, it is a core group muscle which plays a critical role in connecting our upper body and lower body.
Definition of Hip Flexors
Hip Flexors can be defined as the group of muscles which help connect the upper and lower body allowing the flexing movement that decreases the angle between our backbone and legs. These muscles are collectively called iliopsoas. In simple words, it enables pulling of our knees towards the body, it enables us to bend downwards and so on.
If you can imagine the role which is given to the Hip Flexors, you will realize how critical they are when it comes to the flexibility of our body. We usually complain about our inability to bend properly, nagging lower back pain and so on. What nobody tells you is that all this has been happening because your hip flexors are becoming tighter and tighter with each passing day. When we feel that the water is flowing above our heads, we head towards the gym. We do all the possible trainings. We do static stretching, weights and what not. Yet, ultimately the rigidity related to the lower back and joints remain the same. Our movement barely improves. I have realized that all this has been happening because of tight hip flexors.
What are Tight Hip Flexors?
We need to use every muscle in our body to keep it functioning properly. Now what happens when we keep staring at our laptop or phones for longer than usual? Our neck becomes sore. This happens because our neck is supposed to keep moving. It is one of the most mobile muscles in our body. The same way you can imagine what happens when we spend hours sitting on our office chairs or couch or anywhere else. When we spend a lot of time sitting, most of our muscles don’t move and remain are rest for a long period of time. This results in those muscles become more and more rigid.
Definition of Tight Hip Flexors
Tight Hip Flexors is a very common medical condition in which the iliopsoas and rectus femoris or collectively hip flexors become rigid resulting in patellofemoral pain (PFP) and iliotibial band (IB) syndrome. Tight hip flexors are a major cause of chronic back pain, joint pain, injuries of the back amongst professionals who spend most of their waking hours sitting at desks.
Causes of Tight Hip Flexors
So now you know what tight hip flexors actually mean. What is causing your hip flexors to tighten up? The answer lies in what you are doing most of the time. Yes. If you are someone who has 8-10 hours a day desk job, just like me. I can perfectly relate to you. We are spending most of our waking hours doing immense mental exercise and no physical movement except a brief brisk walk after lunch.
As Nick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal correctly state in their Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program – Sitting is Killing You. When we spend hours sitting, our hip flexors are supposed to lose strength and become rigid. Now the next question is what will happen if we keep on with the same attitude towards our tight hip flexors and less flexibility in our body?
Implications of Tight Hip Flexors
If you are someone who spends a lot of time sitting, I have to assert in my review of Unlock Your Hip Flexors that you should give heed to this particular section. There are numerous short term and long-term implications of tight hip flexors. I have tried to compile a list of these below.
- Chronic and Consistent Pain in Joints, Lower Back or Hips
- Sluggishness in Usual Day to Day Life
- Insomnia or difficulty in having good night’s sleep
- Problem or discomfort in walking
- Digestive Problems
- Lower Immunity to fight off viruses and bacteria
- Anxiety Levels keep on Increasing
- Low BP or Poor Blood Circulation
- Change of Posture (Bad Posture)
- Loss of Sexual Health
- Bulging Belly or Excess Belly Fat
All of these are usually not one-off health implications. They are interconnected. The root cause is tight hip flexors. But its implications tend to start with sluggishness in usual activities. Then due to our inability to tend to the issue, it results in loss of sleep, anxiety, digestive problems, excess fat on stomach and thighs. All of these issues combine together to cause consistent pain I joints, lower back or hips.
If you just seem to have gained a few pounds and in addition you spend hours on desk sitting in front of your computer, this might be just the start of it. On the other hand, if you are facing consistent back pain or joint pain or any other form of pain, it is time that you start exercising. When I am talking about exercises, I am not talking about the usual static stretches or weight training in the gym. I would suggest that you take out just 15 minutes for Unlock You Hip Flexors Program. The reason being that it is not a program which costs a fortune. It is quite economical and giving a try to Unlock Your Hip Flexors routine might just help you ward off other health implications associated with such problems.
What will happen when you succeed in Opening Your Hip Flexors?
Honestly, a lot. I would recommend that you give some time to Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal’s Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program. Follow the simple routine for some time and you will begin to notice the changes yourself. I started around 3 months ago with this and I am still following Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program. I am mentioning below the good things that start to happen when you finally succeed in opening up your tightened hip flexors.
Eliminated Joint and Back Pain
To tell you the truth, I got intrigued by Unlock Your Hip Flexors because I spend around 10-12 hours working on my laptop. So, I knew that my lower back is giving me problems. I was having excess fat, which I still have on my belly. But it has reduced to some extent. But after around 3 weeks of following Unlock Your Hip Flexors, I found that the pain has started to reduce substantially. It may take some time but you can forget about that constant nagging pain in joints or lower back or hips once you start with Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program.
Boosts Energy Levels
So, when your body starts supporting you and you start supporting it, a lot changes. The sluggishness which we feel often, is not because of your bad mood or some other external reason. It is because you body is not feeling fresh. How could it?
But Unlock Your Hip Flexors is one such program which works specifically on making your body flexible again. You can work out at the gym and do a lot of stretching exercises, but they will only make your hands or legs or those already flexible muscles more flexible. Unlock Your Hip Flexors focuses only on your core psoas muscle. This enables flexibility of a completely different level which results in feeling more energetic on a day to day basis.
Better Sexual Health
I think you understand how your sexual life suffers because of multiple reasons like joint pain, back pain, hip pain, etc. This is something we all have faced at some point in time. Now I am not pretty sure if it actually improves your sexual health. But what I can tell you is that Unlock Your Hip Flexors will make your body feel better. So, this might be just a result of having a healthier body.
Reduced Belly Fat
Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal make enormously high claims about the results of Unlock Your Hip Flexors. So When it comes to reducing your belly fat, I won’t suggest this one to you. Unlock Your Hip Flexors is a great program aimed at improving the flexibility of your body. It focuses on your core psoas muscle to loosen the whole group of hip flexors. But it does not impact belly fat to a great extent. The impact on belly fat or thigh fat is quite gradual. So if you want a program just for reducing that bulging belly fat on your stomach or thighs, I will not recommend Unlock Your Hip Flexors to you.
But, I have recently reviewed another product called 1 Hour Belly Blast Diet from Dan Long. This specific diet plan program focuses only on excess fat in your body. So I think if you are looking for something in which can help you get rid of belly fat or thigh fat, Dan Long’s 1 Hour Belly Blast Diet is something you should have a look at.
Better Immune System (Fights off Diseases)
Again, the routine mentioned in Unlock Your Hip Flexors may or may not directly impact your immune system. Unlock Your Hip Flexors helps your body become more flexible. This is what it does. Yeah, its result could be that it may improve your immunity. But immunity is so subjective that it is really hard to comprehend what impacts it and what doesn’t. As a result, Unlock Your Hip Flexors will definitely help you in becoming healthier and one of the effects of a healthy body is a better immune system.
How Does Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program Actually Works?
Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal’s Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program has three aspects associated to it. The first is that Unlock Your Hip Flexors works on scientific principles of kinesiology. In simple words, the scientific aspect focuses on neuromuscular facilitation, core stability and muscle activation. Don’t get confused with the scientific jargon. I will explain each of these in this review in a very simple manner in the next section.
The second aspect is the different types of exercises that are a part of Unlock Your Hip Flexors. In this section the stretching exercises as described by Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal are discussed in detail. The stretching exercises are in 6 major categories – PNF, Dynamic, 3-Dimensional Core Stability, Mobility, Fascia and Muscle Activation Movements.
The third aspect of Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program is about the flow of exercises. It simply means that which exercise should be done when. There are some exercises like mobility exercises which should be done before dynamic stretching. This whole method has been devised by Rick Kaselj in Unlock Your Hip Flexors. It is called the “Sequential Flow Method”. It is an ingenious method of doing in total 15 exercises one after another.
The Science Behind Unlock Your Hip Flexors
In today’s 21st century, if there is no science involved in a fitness program, it has to be a hoax. This is the reason why in my reviews, I give immense importance to the underlying scientific principles. In Unlock Your Hip Flexors, the science is not as simple as it seems. If it would have been that simple, these stretching exercises would have already become a part of mainstream gym and fitness clubs. So, let’s have a look at the science behind Unlock Your Hip Flexors.
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation or PNF can be defined as a method of physical exercise which primarily focuses on advanced stretching techniques including autogenic inhibition, reciprocal inhibition, stress relaxation and the gate control theory with an objective of increasing the range of motion of particular group of muscles.
In very simple words, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation is PNF Stretching which is designed for athletes to increase their range of motion for a specific set of muscles. Now in Unlock Your Hip Flexors, PNF plays a critical role as the Psoas is a muscle group which is extremely hard to target.
If you are not familiar with some of the technical jargon of fitness industry, I have tried to keep every thing as simple as possible in my review of Unlock Your Hip Flexors. Core Stability is nothing but the level of endurance of your core muscles. What are core muscles?
Corset Muscles as they are also called surround the back and the abdomen. They are particularly close to the psoas muscles. As a result, in order to loosen hip flexors, exercises that work on corset muscles play a critical role.
Also known as neuromuscular activation, muscle activation techniques primarily focus on muscle contraction. In simple words, muscle contraction is something which happens when you try to lift a weight or pull something. It is the contraction of muscles that enable our body to perform a huge magnitude of tasks.
In Unlock Your Hip Flexors, Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal have focused on muscle activation because of numerous physiological reasons. For instance, your biceps or triceps are used a lot in various different movements. But when it comes to your hip flexors, they tighten up because of lack of movement due to sitting. In order to loosen the hip flexors, contraction of the whole set of core muscles as well as hip flexors muscles is absolutely essential.
Exercises and Routine in Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program
The exercises which are a part of the routine in Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program fall under 6 major categories. In this section of Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal’s Unlock Your Hip Flexors Review, I will describe in very simple terms a bit of the details about each of these 6 major categories of exercises.
What happens when you have tight hip flexors? Your body becomes rigid and inflexible. In simple words, your range of motion of psoas muscles decreases substantially. This is what PNF Stretching is very much capable of working as a counter measure of. PNF Stretching enables increase in range of motion of a particular set of muscles which are targeted through PNF Stretching exercise. In Unlock Your Hip Flexors, Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal have created exercises that use PNF Stretching to make your hip flexors loosen and increase the range of motion of your Psoas Muscles.
Dynamic Stretching is a very basic, yet very significant category of stretching. When you start your routine of Unlock Your Hip Flexors, basically your body starts from the state of rest. That’s why it is very important to warm up the muscles and the body before commencing with any advanced form of stretching. This is where dynamic stretching comes into play.
3-Dimensional Core Stability Exercises
As I stated in the previous section, core stability is all about the corset muscles. In Unlock Your Hip Flexors, Rick and Mike have worked on some routine exercises that focus on the corset muscles. These stretching exercises in Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program are known as 3-dimensional core stability exercises which focus on your abdomen and back muscles. The objective of this category of stretching is to give strength to your core muscles which support your psoas muscles.
If you think you have tight hip flexors, then you will be familiar with the discomfort one has while walking. When you spend too much time sitting at your desk, and then you stand up and take a walk, you will realize what type of discomfort I am talking about here. Mobility exercises play a critical role in enabling your muscles to move your body freely that too without stress. Mobility exercises as part of Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal’s Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program focus on bringing that lost flexibility of your body back on track.
Okay, so the first thing I would like to talk about here is Fascia. What is Fascia?
Fascia is a type of tissue in our body that is beneath the skin and connects the whole body together. It is like a 3-dimensional web which surrounds and infuses all the muscles, bones and every structure inside our body together.
Fascia Stretching is a specific form of stretching in which fascia is target to enable flexibility and smooth movement of our muscles. What happens when a particular muscle is not used very frequently? The muscle becomes rigid. Fascia needs to be target around that muscle area to enable free and smooth movement of the muscles in that particular target area within our bodies.
In Unlock Your Hip Flexors, a whole category of exercises is dedicated to fascia stretching. This is something which I haven’t seen even in quite advanced high cost fitness training programs. In Unlock Your Hip Flexors review I have to mention that this particular set of stretching exercises have made me like this program quite a lot. This is primarily because of the amount of detailing that has been done by Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal in Unlock Your Hip Flexors.
Muscle Activation Movements
Muscle Activation has already been described in the previous section. Here, I will give a brief about the stretching exercises related to Muscle Activation Movements. I would like to start with an example. Did it ever happen with you that when you tried to lift too much weight by one hand automatically your spine as well as shoulder and other muscles also come to help out your biceps and triceps?
Whenever a muscle seems to be weak to stabilize a joint, our brain sends signals to the muscles close to that joint to help in stabilizing that joint. Just the same way as in offices memos are sent, our brain sends these signals. Sometimes, these memos don’t reach. As a result, some muscles have to work overtime on supporting the one weak muscle and some other muscles don’t work at all and become freeloaders. These freeloader muscles become weak themselves later on.
In Unlock Your Hip Flexors, Rick and Mike knew that our psoas muscles and the muscles surrounding the whole hip flexors muscles have lack of coordination and some of them must have become weak. This enabled them to create this particular set of stretching exercises which focus on improving the coordination between the brain and psoas muscles. As well as support the strengthening of hip flexors and the muscles surrounding hip flexors.
How Unlock Your Hip Flexors is Different from other Programs?
This is the leading program that targets only hip flexors. So, you can say it is immensely focused on only one group of muscles. This fact itself makes it stand out from other health and fitness programs. Yet, there are three particular differentiating factors that make Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal’s Unlock Your Hip Flexors stand out from the rest.
The Authors – Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal
Rick Kaselj is a leading kinesiologist and Mike Westerdal is the Founder of Critical Bench. Both are renowned personalities in the fitness world. With more than 30 years of experience between both Rick and Mike, the ingenuity and practicality of Unlock Your Hip Flexors is predominantly visible. Moreover, both of them have worked really hard in creating Unlock Your Hip Flexors program. If you have read the previous section about how unlock your hip flexors work, you will definitely realize the kind of scientific backing it has.
Sequential Flow Method
Rick Kaselj developed his own ingenious sequential flow method for Unlock Your Hip Flexors. There are 15 stretching exercises that are described in Unlock Your Hip Flexors and their order is simply termed as sequential flow method. Yet, the sequence in which these stretching exercises are performed is pretty important. If the sequence is broken, the impact each of these exercises are supposed to make reduces substantially. Moreover, doing them in the wrong sequence may cause other problems.
Easy to Follow Instructions
Although, the exercises have a lot of science, physiology and kinesiology associated with them. But Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal have turned the PDF very simple. The instructions given about how to do each of the stretching exercises is very easy to follow.
What Will I Get in Unlock Your Hip Flexors Program Kit?

If it would have been only a PDF, I would have been quite critical of Unlock Your Hip Flexors. But, as Rick Kaselj and Mike Westerdal went a step further and turned the PDF into an easy to follow DVD Video. I am quite impressed with Unlock Your Hip Flexors. Moreover, the DVD Videos are broken into two parts.
In Part 1 of the DVD Video of Unlock Your Hip Flexors, Rick and Mike have given coaching instructions detailing about each of the exercises. It includes details about why you are doing that particular stretching exercise as well as the correct form of doing the exercises.

Usually with most of the information products like this, bonuses are part of the package. Bonuses are quite important to me as they add value to the core offering of the product package. Unlock Your Hip Flexors include 2 bonuses.
Bonus 1 – Unlock Your Tight Hamstrings
As Unlock Your Hip Flexors is for people who make a living from a seated position and spend most of their waking hours sitting at a desk or in the car or on the couch. The bonuses are also made accordingly. Unlock Your Tight Hamstring bonus includes a routine of exercises that will enable you loosen your tight hamstrings. Everything related to your health in the end comes down to your diet. The second bonus is quite apt in that sense that it gives details about anti-inflammatory diet. The 7 Day Anti Inflammatory diet includes diet recommendations, meal plans, shopping list and supplement list. It is not as detailed, but it is quite useful and handy.

The discounted sale price is $10 which is a steal away. Also, I am not sure how long this offer will last.
